Paint Protection Film and Vinyl Wraps

1) What exactly is Paint Protection Film?

Paint Protection Film protects your vehicle from damage caused by rocks, gravel, salt or insects through the application of a thin and virtually invisible film. We only use the STEK Paint Protection Film which combines best-in-class durability and clarity not previously available in the market. With its very low surface energy, STEK sheds contaminants that would otherwise stain or yellow conventional films. In addition, the clear coat employs special elastomeric polymers that “heal” over time eliminating swirl marks and other fine scratches without having to do anything. Please know that not all scratches or blemishes will heal themselves if they damage the protective top layer.

A vehicle Color Change or Printed wrap is the process of applying colored or printed vinyl film to the painted surfaces of your vehicle. The adhesive of the vinyl sticks to the paint allowing you to quickly and temporarily change the appearance and color of your vehicle or add advertising to your company vehicles. Since wraps are not painted on, they can be removed when you want your vehicle back to its original condition to assist in resale or returning a leased vehicle
In most cases paint protection film and vinyl wrap will not damage your factory paint or repainted areas. However, if your paint is chipping or panels of your vehicle have been repainted it is possible that the film may peel the paint or clear coat during install or removal. Since Protective Film Solutions cannot control how your vehicle was painted (new/factory or used), Protective Film Solutions is not responsible for any chipping or peeling of the painted surface during the install process or when the film is removed.
Our customers repeatedly tell us that our installs are the best in the business. We take pride in our work and are proud that you are receiving the best installation possible for your vehicle. Since the film is a “film” and not paint, there will be irregularities in the film. This may include but is not limited to: very small dimples, minor tack marks and seams where needed to ensure a quality install without lifting. We make every effort possible to avoid this but even the best installers in the industry cannot eliminate every wrinkle, bubble or seams on sharp corners or concave areas on your vehicle.
Part of the magic of paint protection film and vinyl wraps are being able to tuck and roll most of the edges of the film behind lights, trim pieces, door handles and other vehicle parts without removal to keep OEM fitment. This covers up 99%+ of exposed paint. However In order to do this it may be necessary to remove some parts from your vehicle. For color change and printed vinyl wraps, we usually remove pieces that allow us better access to cover up the existing paint color (door handles, mirrors, lights and some bumpers). All of your parts will be put back properly by our trained technicians and your paint protection film will look much more professional because of it. We normally do NOT remove bumpers or headlights during a Paint Protection install as it’s not necessary as it is to a color change wrap.
In most cases it will only be necessary to drive your vehicle in and out of our shop to photograph or inspect our workmanship outside in the sunlight. In rare cases when parts are removed and we need to insure that they have been reassembled properly and to clear any warning lights, it may be necessary to drive your car to check for things like wind noise, rattles, etc. as well as allowing the computer time to sync with certain parts of the car to self-clear codes. Please note that during the process of moving your car around the shop and inspections, your vehicle odometer may rollover to the next higher mile or 2-3 miles if checking for any rattles or engine lights after multiple part removals, this is something that is unavoidable.
Often times during the installation process the paint protection film is placed on the painted panel several times while it is being aligned. During this process it is very possible to remove the paint on a surface that has been repainted and is not original factory paint and could possibly happen to factory paint as well because of the strong adhesive on the back of the film. If you vehicle has had any aftermarket repairs including repainting, Bondo, dent repair, carbon fiber or fiberglass work it cannot be warrantied and Shell Shocked Wraps cannot be responsible for any damage done to your vehicle’s repainted surfaces during install or when he film is removed at a later date. This includes any removal of existing clear bra, emblems or vinyl film that we may need to remove to perform your installation. You agree to release Protective Film Solutions from all liability of peeling of paint or clear coat peeling.

Care and Cleaning Instructions

1) We Recommend Low PH Soaps and Handwash only.
2) STEK Paint Protection Film

Our general care instructions are:
1 – Wait 24 hours after installation to wash your car.
2 – Quickly remove insect or other stains that did not come off with your normal hand wash process.
3 – Light scratches in the film will self-heal in 30 minutes at high temperatures. In colder conditions, or to accelerate the process, pour warm water (120°F) over the affected area. Or if you don’t feel comfortable with doing it yourself, please feel free to stop in and let us take care of it. Please note that not all scratches will heal with heat if the top surface has been compromised. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. (While Paint Protection Film self heals, some damage is too extensive to self heal and is part of the Paint Protection Film doing it job and is not a warranty issue.)

Please remember that your new vehicle wrap is a thin vinyl layer that can damage easily if not cared for properly. DO NOT WASH IN AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH – This will ruin your vinyl wrap immediately!! We recommend using hand wash only on your wrap and never pressure wash any portion of your vehicle’s wrap especially the edges or corners as they will lift and peel. Be very careful not to get gasoline on your wrap and if you do immediately remove it and clean the affected area right away with a mild soap or a specialized wrap cleaning solution, chances are though that if you get gas on your wrap, it will stain – this is NOT covered under warranty. Any harsh chemicals, bird droppings, dirt, tree sap or cleaning agents can eat through the lamination or top coat and damage your wrap. Please do not leave your vehicle in direct sunlight for extended periods of time as excessive sunlight can unevenly fade your wrap and dull its color (parking daily outside during work is fine, overnight uncovered is not recommended) if you leave your car outside uncovered overnight and there is dew or water droplets on your car, please wipe down immediately as these spots can stain your wrap…this is NOT covered under warranty. Also, watch where you park, if your car gets sprayed with a lawn sprinkler, it will more than likely stain as water used on lawns has many more minerals in it than drinking water and will stain your car almost immediately – this is NOT covered under warranty. Please stay away form mechanical carwashes because the high-pressure water and abrasive brushes will damage your wrap. These are not areas that we can warranty so please use proper care to avoid film detrition, fading or laminate failure. No one wins when you have a poor-looking wrap and we have an unhappy customer. If you have any questions about caring for your new wrap please feel free to contact us anytime and we will be happy to help.

Window Tint and Windshield Protection

We exclusively offer the STEK line of window films. STEK contains a proprietary blend of ceramic particles to act as a solid barrier to infrared heat without having to be super dark in order to achieve great heat blocking characteristics. Our films block 99% of the harmful UV rays that can lead to skin cancer, premature aging and skin cell damage.

1) How is my tint installed?
Window tint is shrunk to fit on the outside of your windows to conform to the natural curve of the glass and then is installed on the inside of the glass with it’s own adhesive.
You can use most window cleaners that are Ammonia free or plain water. Do not use any harsh abrasives, do not put any stickers on the tint as it will damage the film upon removal. We recommend Sprayway Glass Cleaner
There may be a small amount of distortion or minor dust particles when staring AT the windshield…typically you will be looking “through” the windshield and not be noticed but it is still something to note. This will also vary depending on the car and tolerance per user. Once installed, if you feel the distortion is too much for you, we can remove it at no charge but there is no refund for the product.

The main reason is that if you use your windshield wipers regularly, there is a strong chance of scratching the film (if the wipers come on and the windshield has dirt on it WITHOUT rain or water). That being said, we do plenty of cars that are daily drivers! The trade-off of not chipping/cracking the windshield outweighs the possibility of scratching the windshield film with the few times you’ll ever use your wipers.

An additional reason is if your car is regularly kept outside and not garage-kept, the constant exposure to the sun will tend to dry out the film prematurely. Windshield Film is NOT perfect and can have defects in the film..as long as the defects are not in the direct line of drive vision, the manufacturer considers these to be normal.

Paint Corrections and Ceramic Coatings

1) What is a Paint Correction & Ceramic Coating and why do I need it?

1 – A paint correction is typically needed prior to all ceramic coatings. This allows us to ensure the surface of your vehicle is free of most scratches and minor paint imperfections.
2 – Ceramic coatings offer an added layer of protection to your vehicle’s clear coat and/or paint protection film. This allows for easier cleaning and maintenance of your vehicle. This is not a paint protection film, the ceramic coatings are a layer of Sio2 (Titanium Dioxide) that bonds to the surface giving you one more layer of protection from the elements.
3 – We use a combination Ceramic Coatings from Feynlab Ceramic coatings (1, 4, and 8 s as well as Matte, Glass, Wheel coatings) for installation over STEK Paint Protection Film.

1 – Ceramic Coating over Paint does require an annual maintenance to ensure that the slick (Hydrophobic) characteristics are refreshed as that is the sacrificial layer that will degrade over a year. Please contact us on the 1 year anniversary of your installation to have your vehicle brought in for it’s “annual maintenance” as long as the car was properly maintained, washed and stored, the Annual Maintenance runs $250+. If any additional work is needed first, pricing is to be determined on seeing the car at the drop-off.
2 – NEVER run your ceramic coated vehicle through an automated car wash. The harsh chemicals used by the machines will damage the coating as well cause micro scratching if the car was uses brushes or any other type of aide to remove dirt from the surfaces. Always hand wash your vehicle.
